Ikkitousen

Matchless Fighter

Aired in July 2003

Man, if you like fanservice, this season is for you! Panties, bath scenes, women taking off kimonos, you name it, Ikkitousen has it all... And with a plot revolving around schools battling based on magatama and ancient Chinese legends/warriors, you've got a combination that's aimed straight at a lot of the shounen audience. Good enough to get an anime, I suppose! ^^

So, there are seven schools where all the students wear magatama as proof of their power, pick fights with one another, and generally scheme about ancient Chinese legends and warriors that come back to life, looking to gain power for themselves and their schools, I imagine. Into this mix (of mostly male students, of course) is thrown Sousaku Hakufu, a spunky 17-year-old girl who loves fighting and doesn't care at all about showing off her intimates. ;p Her mother tells her to leave her hometown and come here, and gives her a magatama, but doesn't explain exactly why she's doing any of this. So she beats up some guys when she gets to her new school, but she is felled by Mr. Giant Student, looking to see if she's one of the ancient Chinese warriors... but she is! Her attack was so subtle it takes effect minutes later, but knocks him to the ground, or something.

So people have their eyes on this new girl, including this crazy one-eyed girl who has some... interesting... attacks when she fights the giant student. Meanwhile, we get back to Hakufu's cousin's house (the main guy or something), and find out that Hakufu's mom came too, to make sure they don't sleep with each other or something... Then they proceed to all get drunk and less clothed, ending up with the guy and Hakufu in the bath, him trying to explain about the magatama but her falling asleep... whee~

Actually, this was pretty fun for a silly shounen fighting anime. The OP animation and song are pretty fun, and it's all presented very nicely. I think it's funny how Inoue Kikuko gets SO MANY mother roles these days, but they're all pretty fun, this one being no exception. Can't really think of anything else to say, but I just came away thinking much more positively about this show than I have about a lot of others recently (scroll down ;p).
