I didn't actually bother reading about what Puchi Puri * Yuushi was, so I went in knowing that it was a Gainax show, and nothing else. It turned out to be what looks to be the start of a cute little fantasy kids' series. Yuushi is a girl who was found by a soldier in the aftermath of a battle, having been guided to her by a light shining in the sky. He raises her, but she turns out never growing past around age ten. She says people think it might be a curse, or wrath of God, but no one really knows why. So when we find her in the anime, she's seventeen years old, but she still looks like she's ten. Of course, she's kind of touchy about this fact, although she's obviously accepted it.
So of course, Yuushi really wants to be an adult, and we find out that the Queen of the realm has come to the castle near Yuushi's home, looking for candidates to be the Platinum Princess (and of course be the bride for the PRINCE). The Platinum Princess is someone who's born only once every thousand years or so, and she wears the Eternal Tiara, which has gems representing all the physical and magical worlds, which can grant any wish... "Otona ni nareru no?!" Can it really make her an adult, she asks of the ancient dragon whose grandchild(?) she takes care of while he is on a journey. Of course she hopes so, but she can't even get into the castle, since she just looks like a child. Ahh, what is a girl to do?
However, she finds out that none of the girls who went to the castle was able to even meet with the queen, because they had to find her first. Yuushi sees a flash coming from a part of the castle, and she just knows that she has to get there. With some magical help from Cube (CV: Saeki Tomo, Sasshi from Abenobashi), she's able to get into the castle, find the queen, and become the Platinum Princess Candidate. Now she must learn to be a suitable princess for the realm, which is said to not be an easy task, but Yuushi must ganbatte so she can become a REAL adult! ^^
Yeah, so this series looks like it should be fun. I wonder exactly what they're going to do for the rest of the series, but it seems like it will start with a RIVAL appearing, and Yuushi going to SCHOOL, oh my! Since this is an NHK anime, I can imagine that it will be quite fun, without being completely insane like some other recent series. ^_^ |
